Task 5 – Puppet Rig

When rigging the puppet I put skeletons into each part of the body that would need to be animated, I started by putting 3 bones in each arm, one for the upper arm, one for the lower arm and one for the sword. I put 2 bones in each leg, one for the upper leg and one for the lower leg.

I also added a bone to each head and to the body just so that the heads would not become misshapen when I moved some of the other bones but this turned out to be unnecessary as I used weight maps.

To create a weight map I selected a shape, went to the "Map" tab and pressed create weight map, I named the weight map after the surface that the object had and left the initial weight at 100%, I did this for each arm and leg bone.

When in layout I converted the skelegons into bones, once this was done I told the object to use the bones from layer 2 so that the bones would now move the object.

To applt the weight maps I selected a bone and pressed "p" to bring up the properties menu and told each bone to use the correct weight map so the bones would not misshape or distort any of the other pieces of the puppet rig.
